A visit to the dairy farm.
On our way home from Michigan last week, we stopped at a dairy farm that is located halfway between Chicago and Indianapolis. The website for Fair Oaks Farms is here. We highly recommend it as a great educational place for kids (and adults too)! Everything was top notch from the activity center to the bus tour to the eating area to the birthing barn. We saw the entire process of a calf being born! That poor mom birthed a BIG baby boy and had to have some extra help from the brave lady pulling it out with ropes. They also have a building where you can watch them making cheese and ice cream. The bus tour is very informational and it takes you right through one of the barns where all the cows are hanging out, etc. The video is of the milking process and it was fascinating. Since we literally drink one gallon of milk per day in this family, it was interesting to visit. It was fun to find out that there is a good chance that the milk at our Kroger comes from this dairy! You should visit if you're ever up that way.
